Privacy Policy

1. What we collect

Account: your name, email address, and password credentials (handled by our authentication provider; we never see your password).

Household & preferences: household member names you choose to enter, age categories, dietary restrictions, allergies, food likes/dislikes, nutrition goals, cooking preferences, budget, and meal schedule. Allergy and dietary information is used solely to plan safe, suitable meals — never for advertising.

Usage: meal plans, recipes you save or create, meal feedback, grocery-list activity, and pantry items — this is what makes your planning smarter over time.

Location (optional): a city you provide, converted to approximate coordinates for weather-aware planning. We do not access device GPS.

If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from your Google account — nothing else.

2. Automatically collected information and cookies

Like most services, our servers automatically log basic technical information (IP address, browser or device type, pages requested) for security and operations. We also record first-party usage events (for example, that a plan was generated or a recipe saved) to understand how SimplyPlate is used and improve it. This analytics data stays with us — we do not use third-party analytics or advertising trackers.

We use only essential cookies: keeping you signed in and remembering interface preferences (like the mobile/desktop view toggle). We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

3. What we don't do

We do not sell your personal information. We do not show third-party advertising. We do not use your household, allergy, or health-related inputs for anything except running SimplyPlate for you.

4. Who processes your data

Supabase hosts our database and authentication (your data is stored encrypted at rest). Vercel hosts our web application and, like any host, sees standard request logs. Resend delivers our account emails (confirmations, password resets).

Open-Meteo receives approximate coordinates (never your identity) to fetch weather for planning.

When you upload or import a recipe, the recipe content (title, ingredients) may be sent to our AI provider (currently Google Gemini) to estimate nutrition details for that recipe. Future AI features you explicitly invoke (such as recipe import from a link, photo, or the assistant) work the same way: we send the minimum content needed for that request, never your household profile wholesale, and never your allergy or health inputs for any purpose other than performing your request.

When subscriptions launch, payment is handled by the app marketplace you subscribe through (Apple App Store or Google Play); we receive subscription status, not payment details, and we never store card numbers.

5. Disclosures we may make

We may disclose information if required by law or valid legal process, or where reasonably necessary to investigate fraud or abuse, enforce our Terms, or protect the safety or rights of users or others.

If SimplyPlate is ever involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may transfer to the successor — which must honor commitments at least as protective as this policy — and we will notify you before any materially different practice applies.

6. Where your data lives

Our servers are located in the United States. If you use SimplyPlate from outside the U.S., your information is processed and stored in the U.S. as described in this policy.

7. Retention and deletion

We keep your data while your account is active. Delete your account anytime from Profile → Delete account: this permanently removes your account, household, plans, preferences, feedback, and recipes you created. You can also email us to request deletion.

Calendar data, if you later connect a calendar, is limited to busy/free windows and retained only as long as needed for planning.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. Contact support@simply-plate.com and we will honor applicable requests.

9. Children

SimplyPlate accounts are for users 13 and older. Household member entries (for example, a child's meal preferences) are provided by the account holder and used only for meal planning.

10. Changes and contact

This policy is part of our Terms of Service. If we materially change it we will notify you in-app or by email before the change takes effect.
